Hoboken Public School District Awarded $14,779 Grant from New Jersey Department of Education to Expand Access to Computer Science Education in High Schools

Hoboken, NJ, — June 27, 2024 - The Hoboken Public School District is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Expanding Access to Computer Science in High Schools Grant from the New Jersey Department of Education. This grant, totaling $14,779, will significantly enhance the district's efforts to provide additional computer science educational opportunities to its high school students.

With the support of this grant, the Hoboken Public School District aims to broaden its scope of computer science courses, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to build upon their essential skills in coding and further develop skills in the areas of programming, software engineering, operating systems, and algorithms and data structures. The funds will be utilized to invest in technology resources, curriculum development, and the implementation of innovative instructional strategies.

"We are thrilled to receive this grant from the New Jersey Department of Education," said Donna D’Acunto, Supervisor of STEM for the Hoboken Public School District. "Computer science education is critical for preparing our students for success in the 21st-century workforce. This funding will allow us to expand our offerings and ensure that every student has access to high-quality computer science instruction."

The Expanding Access to Computer Science in High Schools Grant aligns with the Hoboken Public School District's commitment to providing equitable educational opportunities for all students. By further investing in computer science education, the district aims to empower more students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.

"We believe that computer science education is not only essential for future career opportunities but also for fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity," said Robin Piccapietra, Hoboken High School Principal. "This grant will enable us to strengthen our computer science program beyond the Computer Science Principles course that we already require all students to take in order to meet Hoboken High School’s graduation requirements, and to better prepare our students for college and career success."

The Hoboken Public School District expresses its gratitude to the New Jersey Department of Education for their support and investment in the future of our students. With this grant, the district looks forward to continuing its mission of preparing confident and resilient graduates who value academic achievement and embrace challenges.
